About

I got my first G-Shock when I was eleven. A DW-5600, black resin, bought with birthday money because a boy at school had one and I was not going to be the only person in my year without a watch that could survive being thrown at a wall. I threw it at a wall to check. It was fine. I was hooked.

Thirty-odd years later I still wear one most days, and I still occasionally throw them at things.

What this site is

G-Shocked is one person writing about G-Shocks properly. Not a content farm, not a press-release feed, and not a shop pretending to be a magazine.

Casio has made thousands of references over four decades. Nobody owns them all, and anyone who claims to have worn them all is lying to you. So here is how it actually works: some of these watches are mine and I will tell you exactly how they have aged. The rest are researched carefully, cross-checked against Casio’s own documentation, and clearly labelled as such.

You will always know which is which. That is the whole deal.

Why you might trust me

  • I say plainly whether I have handled a watch or researched it. No implying otherwise, no stock photos dressed up as wrist shots.
  • Specifications are checked against Casio’s own manuals and product pages, not copied from whoever ranked first on Google.
  • I say when a watch is disappointing. A 6 out of 10 is a 6 out of 10, even when the affiliate link would prefer otherwise.
  • I fix mistakes in public, with a dated note explaining what changed.

The site earns through affiliate links, which means if you buy something after clicking through, I get a small commission at no cost to you. It has never once changed a score, and it never will. There is a whole page about how that works if you want the detail.

The collection, briefly

Mostly squares, because I have never really grown out of that first DW-5600. Nothing exotic, nothing bought to be photographed. The one I actually reach for is still a plain black square that cost less than a takeaway.

Say hello

Corrections, arguments, tip-offs about something I have missed — all welcome. I would rather be told I am wrong than be quietly wrong forever. There is a contact page, and I do read everything.
